Fashion Show

As sparkly streamers decorated the entrance, the red carpet was laid. Textiles Year 9 and 10 girls from Eastmeadows relaxed and experienced the life of a model for a day. Sirius College Keysborough hosted a fashion show with the support of Eastmeadows girls to deliver a thrilling fashion show.

The Eastmeadows students displayed their fashion pieces that they had created for textiles throughout the year and with Bollywood dance performances, music and refreshments, it was indefinitely a night not to be missed. The Eastmeadows girls had been working hard the whole year to deliver the fashion show as they created various articles and accessories in textiles.

At the beginning of the year, girls took unwanted land waste materials, clothing and accessories from home and opportunity shops. They were then upcycled through either embellishing, deconstructing and reconstructing to make something totally different. Examples of techniques used were the addition of beads/sequins, textile painting, tie-dying, distressing denim and much more.

In term three, students explored a different technique of textiles that is dry felting. Students used felt to decorate the accessories they made such as bracelets, earrings, necklaces, belts or handbags. Students included a lot of detail and precision to their product(s) to create intricate pieces dependant on their design brief.

In Term 4, students created maxi skirts which are currently in fashion this season and for summer. They had to use unstitched material or pre-made skirts to produce their desired pieces dependant on their design brief. Students accomplished this by using sewing machines and or just sewing needles to create their piece.

All the design pieces were confidently modelled with flattering hairstyles, make-up, other articles and accessories to deliver an awesome fashion show!

On behalf of Year 9 and 10 textile girls, we appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with KBC and showcase our fashion pieces. It was an amazing opportunity for the textile girls and hopefully this event continues in the future.
